Meet our colleague Ausra Silkauskaite

Can you introduce yourself?
My name is Ausra, I am 37 years old and originally from Lithuania. I have been happily living in the Netherlands for 12 years now, in Oud-Rijswijk to be precise. Together with my partner and our two cats, I am enjoying life.
I grew up on a farm, surrounded by animals from a young age. That is where my love for animals began, so studying veterinary medicine was a natural choice for me. After graduating, I came to the Netherlands for a summer job, intending to return to Lithuania afterwards. But life took a different turn. I felt at home here, was given wonderful opportunities, and decided to stay in the Netherlands permanently.
In my free time, I like to stay active. I exercise regularly, enjoy fun days out, and love spending time with friends. Doing enjoyable activities together and discovering new places gives me a lot of energy. I also love hiking in the mountains. I look forward to introducing myself further in this feature.
What is your role at Anthura and how long have you been working here?
I have been working at Anthura for almost 10 years and currently serve as Head of In Vitro Cutting. In this role, I lead a team of colleagues representing more than 27 different nationalities. My work is very diverse: I manage the digital process, monitor the quality of the cuttings, and work closely with the cultivation specialist to ensure the process runs as smoothly as possible.
My career at Anthura started as a cutting worker. Through hard work and personal development, I was given the opportunity to grow into my current position as Head of In Vitro Cutting. I am proud of that achievement and appreciate that Anthura offers employees opportunities to advance within the company.
What do you enjoy most about working at Anthura?
The collaboration with my colleagues. Every day I work alongside people from many different nationalities, which makes the job both varied and educational. Everyone brings their own experiences and culture, creating a pleasant and interesting working environment.
In addition, there is never a dull moment at Anthura. There are always new developments and challenges, meaning no two workdays are the same. It is precisely this variety and the opportunity to continue developing myself that make working at Anthura so enjoyable for me.
How would you describe the working atmosphere at Anthura?
I would describe the working atmosphere at Anthura as open, supportive, collegial, and stress-free. Everyone helps each other when needed, and together we make sure the work is done properly. We also enjoy a team outing twice a year.
It is a fun and accessible way to get to know each other better outside of work and strengthens the collaboration within the team.
What would you like to tell a new employee?
Welcome to Anthura! You will be joining a warm and caring family business where people come first. There is a strong focus on employees, and you will have plenty of opportunities to grow.
Besides work, there is also plenty of room for fun and social activities. Regular events are organized, such as sports activities, themed weeks, a cozy barbecue, and the Anthura theme party.
Do you have any tips for new colleagues to help them feel at home quickly?
Most importantly, be yourself and do not be afraid to ask questions. Everyone was new once, and your colleagues will be happy to help you find your way.
Be open to learning new things and take the time to chat with your colleagues. This will not only help you learn the job more quickly but also make you feel part of the team sooner. Also, participate in the activities organized by Anthura. It is a great way to get to know colleagues from other departments and feel at home within the company more quickly.
My advice? Be yourself, ask questions, and make the most of the opportunities you are given. Then you are sure to have a great time!
