What we do

With more than 85 years of experience, we have become experts in the field of Anthurium and orchids. As a breeder, we develop innovative, sustainable and colourful flowers and plants for growers that consumers can ultimately enjoy for a long time. We have recently added bromeliads to our portfolio.

We take the long-term view with our breeding

Looking years ahead is a must when breeding our plants. Several stages need to pass before a variety reaches the consumer's home. How exactly does this process work?

Our process

We work every day to develop new colours and shapes. At the same time, we constantly strive to improve the plant’s internal properties, such as shelf life and resistance. In this way we create a hugely diverse range of Anthura varieties that are produced around the world.

Research

Research

We do a great deal of interdisciplinary research in order to improve plant quality and accelerate breeding. Since 2019 we have had our own Research Centre to create a synergy between molecular and biochemical research, cell biology, phenotyping and cultivation research. By developing selection methods and marker-driven breeding, taking diagnostics to the next level and optimizing cultivation, we strive to achieve these goals.

Breeding

Breeding

Breeding Anthurium, Phalaenopsis and Bromeliads is a lengthy process in which the highest achievable quality is the gold standard. This part of the process takes seven to eight years. Cross-breeding is done in our large breeding greenhouse and only the best seedlings are selected and cloned, after which they are extensively tested and inspected. In our test centre, plants are exposed to various climate conditions.

Propogation lab

Propogation

After years of thorough testing and selection, a potential variety is propagated in our own laboratories. Our labs in the Netherlands, Northern Macedonia and China are equipped with modern facilities. Propagation of Anthurium and Phalaenopsis plants is undertaken in these facilities by tissue culture. Taking the utmost care to ensure breed purity and freedom from disease, work is carried out under sterile conditions. As a result, the plantlets meet the highest quality standards. This provides a healthy start to the subsequent growth of young plants.

Young plants

Young plants

A successful start to cultivation begins with strong and healthy young plants. For each growth stage we use specific climate settings. At our production sites, we apply optimal conditions so that our young plants dovetail perfectly with the constant innovations in cultivation methods. The more predictable and robust the production process in terms of time and quality, the higher the delivery reliability.

Show greenhouse

Show greenhouse

Growers have the opportunity to evaluate the most promising Anthurium, Bromeliad and Orchid varieties in our show greenhouse. These new varieties are taken directly from the breeding facility to the show greenhouse. This offers our customers a unique opportunity to co-select their future assortment at an early stage.
