Anthura supplies young Phalaenopsis plants derived from meristems. Meristems are uniform, so the characteristics in terms of cultivation time, number of branches per plant and plant height are more homogenous. Moreover, the likelihood of loss is lower.
The young plants are delivered in plastic flasks with tissue culture, in which the young plants come with or without agar (CupGrade or Cup respectively), or as plugs. The growing phase of tissue culture plants requires special conditions. When the flasks are delivered, they are carefully checked to ensure that they have a good leaf-to-root ratio.
The advantage of the larger plants in plugs is that they carry less risk of loss in the growing phase. Moreover, their cultivation time is 5-7 months shorter than tissue culture plants. Most varieties are delivered in trays of 60 plants. The plants are sorted by size before planting them in plugs, resulting in a tray of uniform planting material. These larger plants can be potted immediately.
